El giro notacional y Dylan in between (instalación) en Galería Freijo
In the space LZ46 of the Freijo Gallery (Zurbano 46, Madrid) has taken place on February 7 (8 pm) the presentation of the book The Notational Shift, by José Iges and Manuel Olveira, related to the homonymous exhibition that both curated, held in the MUSAC of León last year. That project pursues the idea of writing and theorizing about notation in relation to some manifestations of contemporary art.
This presentation was made by Fernando Castro Flórez, director of the Infraleves Collection that shaped this publication, as well as the two authors and curators of the project, José Iges and Manuel Olveira, director of MUSAC.
In addition, it was presented the work by the artist José Iges (Spain, 1951) called Dylan in Between, thus contextualizing the presentation through a graphic and sound installation subtitled The Message of the Medium. In it Iges, in line with some approaches of The Notational Shift, shows as stylized notation the waveform of the original work, exhibited as graphic work, and vinyl copies of it, to be reproduced by several turntables in the room.
Since the sound objects of the original work of 2001 are noises captured by the needle of a turntable between songs of LPs by Bob Dylan, that is, the most genuine message of the medium “vinyl record”, the system formed by each vinyl and each equipment used for its reproduction, which also adds other unpredictable sounds, including those of its own wear, further highlights the nature of that message, arising from chance and accident.
